Why I Love Taylor Swift
Jul 17th
and why our society should too. OK, to be fair, i really don’t love this girl. I do however think she can sing and thinks shes sincere,
The only reason i am writing this is because Taylor Swift has reached the same status level as Creed, Nickelback, etc. Sellout, fake, whatever you want to call it. Whats with all the hate? I can remember when she had first come out and songs like
“Tim Mcgraw” drew fans from every genre. Swift crossed the lines of country and pop and seemed to be an attractive piece of modern music. Then slowly the hate crept up. Song after song, now those same fans who were screaming her songs are making fun of her, ripping her music, her singing talent, and most important her personality. Well GEE GOLLY WIZ, a southern girl who sings upbeat, happy, meaningful songs, that is the worst thing that could strike the music world! If you can’t catch the sarcasm, stop reading. More >
RECIPE:”Chipotle” Corn Salsa
Jul 1st

6 Ears Sweet Yellow Corn
2 Poblano Chilies
1/2 Red Onion
2 Red Jalapenos
1/3 Cup Chopped Cilantro
1 Tablespoon Lime Juice
Salt and Pepper to Taste
Roast the corn and Poblano chilies on a grill or BBQ and let cool. Cut the corn off the cob. Dice the Poblano chilies, onion, and red jalapenos. Combine all the ingredients and season to taste.
I have made this a few times now and tried it with different pepper and this one is by far the best. Can be used as a salsa or side corn salad. I’ve even heated it up and cooked it with rice. Very good dish. Enjoy
Restaurant Review: Revolver
Jun 1st
I’ve never been to a restaurant so nice. I’ll be honest, I was a little scared. O yea, I’m still just looking at the website! I find the number listed on the website and call. The man on the other end of the phone call was very polite. I stated “I need to make a reservation for 8p.m.” He said “OK, your reservation has been set, is there anything special you or your guest would like to try? Any food allergies?” This caught me off guard as I’ve never had someone ask if there was anything special I would like to try. I replied “The guest I will be bringing is vegan.” That was no problem for him as he stated that the chef will cook something special for her. More >
Run David Run: Not a Documentary
May 1st
First, I am stealing this title from a recent documentary i watched: Run Ricky Run.
Lame, YES, fitting, YES.
I’m standing in line. D12. I can’t even figure out if I’m in the right spot. Roughly 900 students are graduating. What is everyone going to do when they graduate? I wonder if anyone else is thinking this same thing? I don’t know anyone who has a job already. OK, i know a few, but not many. We are all about to pass through an arch. An arch of opportunity. Is it?
I’m wondering because I’m in the same boat. We all are. Sink or swim is approaching. How many will sink? How many will choose fields that mean nothing to their degree? How many of us have skated through college?
In Run Ricky Run, Williams describes himself as he retired from the NFL “I was growing personally, but i wasn’t being productive in my life in any way.” I’m guessing some of the students who will pass through that arch tomorrow are thinking the same thing. Many have grown personally over the last 4 years of their life. Learning what they like/love/hate. Many of them know that their major of choice was a mask. A mask to impress those who needed impressed. I could throw out a statistic describing how many graduates go into their selected field, but whats the point? We all know that most will not. More >
Everyones a Philosopher: And so are You
Apr 30th
8a.m. Time for school. I get to listen to the great philosophers at school. The great knowledge they have bestowed upon me. OR! I could sign into Facebook and be moved by the vast amount of philosophical quotes that have been bounced through an echo chamber from boring websites that produce list after list of worthless sayings.
Stop right there! I am guilty many times over for doing this exact procedure. I AM AN IDIOT! I wanted to get that out of the way before I am labeled a hypocrite. Now, onto the show. My first question is
What is the point of posting a status update by saying something like:
“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage. “

$40,000 to Happiness
Apr 10th
I was listening to my favorite radio station yesterday morning when the topic of college education was touched on. One of the hosts through out the idea about fine arts and generic arts at college. He stated “You want to be an actor on Broadway, don’t waste $120,000 at the University of (fill in the blank) on a theater major. If you are a parent shoveling up the money for your kids college, why not give them $40,000 and tell them to go be a waiter in New York City. Take acting classes, network with people in the industry, audition. REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE.”
This seems to be the point that not only parents, but the actual kids going to school are missing. Look at all the actors and actresses, how many of them have technical backgrounds with a theater major? Probably not many. This is the same for artist who want to become painters, photographers, etc. Master your craft on your own money! It doesn’t take a college education for you to continue to take great photographs. Find an unpaid job that is desperate for a photographer. Who cares if you are making money off the photo’s.
I’m seeing a trend that people thing the only way to become “successful” is that you have to go to college. The country will always need the trucker drivers, plumbers, postal workers, and guess what; they make pretty good money too! A lot of these people enjoy their job. Most couldn’t see themselves working in a cubicle. So, your life isn’t over if you don’t want to go to college.
The pursuit of happiness is the most ridiculous phrase; if you pursue happiness you’ll never find it.

A Week Without Social Media
Apr 6th
This is the first challenge I’m officially setting for myself this year. Yes, I’m a day
late with the blog but for this entire week (Monday April 5th-Sunday April 11th) i will not be logging in to any social media sites that I’m on
I have fallen victim to my own advice and am making small changes to correct these problems. I feel people are spending too much time “checking” these social sites and less time actually interacting with those same friends. So, if you want to reach me my email is davidfoustinc@gmail.com and anyone who is friends with me already have my phone #.
If i feel another week is needed, I’ll continue this experiment. I have found that i like real people more than internet people and if you want to get together to chat this week let me know. I really like food and cold drinks, hint hint.
Passion This
Apr 5th
How did she find her passion? That isn’t fair! I’ve worked hard, what the hell is wrong?
You think she found her passion doing the same thing every week? Probably not. When facing a problem, sometimes its easier to look at it from the outside view. Simplified. How does one expect to find what they love to do by doing things what they hate?
Many times its fear holding these people back. The fear of failing when they try something new. Everyone who has ever done anything worth mentioning failed many times before finally getting it right. It’s how we learn.
I have fear. Fear of not taking chances. Fear of staying in the same rut. Fear of letting things slip through my fingers. Sometimes our past shapes our future. Being able to forget those mistakes from your past can push you to do something incredible.

O Brothers, Where Art Thou?
Mar 18th
Walking down a dirt road, kicking rocks, its hot. So hot that its hazy, 100 degrees hot. The heat rising from the blacktop, the shoulder dust blowing whenever the wind picks up. Where am I going? The question is where have I been? I’m at the city limits of Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
I want to play my guitar. I’m good, I think? The tent i brought with me i picked up at a local army depot, said it was leftover from the forgotten war. I was too young to join. The building isn’t what i expected it to be. I’ve heard stories of this place, i just assumed it was bigger. They say Florence,AL is the birthplace of the blues. I’ve been known for strumming together a few good licks.
The town is kind of a run down little thing. I seen a hotel but i think I’m going to sleep outside under the stars. I don’t want to miss who’s coming and going. The people in the bible belt don’t take kindly to me though.Hippie was the nicest thing I’ve been called since hanging outside this studio.Hall has told me to leave a few times. I keep hearing music playing inside. This guitar needs new strings, I’ve been playing constantly for the entire week I’ve been here. Pickett has offered me strings, i couldn’t just take them. Instead we bartered a bit. I told him i would teach him “Hey Jude.” I didn’t see it as a fair trade, but he seemed kin on the idea.
